Now that the lemon trees are ready to harvest here are some ways to use your lemons and lemon zest.

LEMONS:

  • Use lemon juice instead of salt it is a flavor enhances as well
  • Drizzle lemon juice over cooked vegetables to bring out their flavor
  • Make lemon butter by add lemon juice, zest, minced garlic into soften butter. Roll in plastic wrap and chill. When ready to use cut a slice to top on grilled beef or fish
  • Make a simple seafood marinade by mixing olive oil, lemon juice, chopped dill or fennel
  • Use lemon juice in salad dressings instead of vinegar

ZEST:

  • Add a long piece of zest when braising vegetables, meat or making stocks
  • Make lemon sugar by putting strips of zest in granulated sugar. Use in cookies, cakes or sprinkle on french toast
  • Make lemon vodka by steeping strips of lemon zest into a bottle of vodka. Taste the vodka regularly and remove the lemon zest when you like the way it tastes.
  • Add lemon zest to an aperitifs or your favorite cocktail
