Is there a difference between grilling and barbecuing?

Well yes there is.

Grilling is where you will cook over direct high heat with the top of the grill open to help sear your proteins or vegetables.

Barbecuing always done low and slow with the grill hood down so that the heat cooks all around the protein.  It is especially good for tough cuts of meat like a brisket or pork shoulder because they have lots of connective tissue.
